Centre for WTO Studies as a Centre of Excellence


The Centre for WTO Studies (CWS) was established in the IIFT in 1999 to assist the Department of Commerce, Government of India in trade policy making and multilateral trade negotiations through detailed research and trade-related capacity building initiatives.

CWS has developed as a centre of excellence in providing key research inputs on trade related matters. The domain expertise of the CWS faculty span the entire spectrum of WTO and other trade issues, including tariffs, rules of origin, subsidies, agriculture, trade remedies, services, intellectual property rights, investment, competition, labour, government procurement, global value chains, environment, standards, trade negotiations etc.

CWS has established linkage with international organisations such as the WTO, World Trade Institute, Berne in conducting capacity building progammes on international trade issues. CWS faculty has accumulated vast experience in organising trade related capacity building programmes for officials from developing countries, Indian government officials, industry representatives, Probationers from various Indian Civil Services.
